Happiness & Mindfulness

A quiet corner to pause, breathe, and reflect — a little gentle science, a few small stories, and some words worth carrying with you.

Pause

Take a breath

Follow the circle. Breathe in as it grows, and out as it softens. There is nowhere else to be right now.

Small stories

Three short tales

The Two Wolves

An elder told her grandchild that a quiet battle lives inside us all — between two wolves. One is anger, envy and fear. The other is joy, kindness and peace. “Which one wins?” asked the child. The elder smiled: “The one you feed.” Every kind word and steadying breath is a small meal for the wolf you wish to grow.

Empty Your Cup

A clever visitor came to an old teacher, eager to debate. As they sat, the teacher poured tea into the guest’s cup — and kept pouring until it spilled over. “Stop, it’s full!” the guest cried. “Like this cup,” said the teacher gently, “you are full of your own ideas. Empty your cup first, and then we can begin.”

The Second Arrow

“If an arrow strikes you, does it hurt?” a teacher asked. “Yes.” “And if a second arrow strikes the same spot?” “Far more.” “We cannot always avoid the first arrow — the painful thing itself. But the second — our worry and anger about the pain — is the one we fire at ourselves. That one, we can choose to lower.”
